The Promises (CLH eps 20 & 32 screen shots)

SC just wanted CLH to treat her as he used to do, Ep 20

I miss Chor Lau Heung and Song Siu Ching... hence despite my sleepiness, I want to post the following screen shots from episodes 20 and 32. Episode 20 screen shots portray Chor tai-gor's initial hesitance in having a relationship with Siu Ching after he learned that she was the Princess. Ep 20 and 32 screen shots portray Siu Ching's promise to Chor Lau Heung; that she just wanted to be with him, to spend her life with him, and she was ready to cast aside her title and rank for him. Of course when in Ep 40 she later forgot her promise and wanted him to stay with her in the palace instead, he was disappointed (see these screen shots for the latter scene in Ep 40). The shots also showed how CLH took marriage seriously, hence his initial reluctance in trying out the relationship with the Princess, because he really actually wanted it to work, and he originally didn't have faith in their relationship. Ep 32 was very important in the CLH/SSC saga because it was here when Chor tai-gor truly promised that he'd take Siu Ching with him (presumably to be his wife) in his wandering adventures.

Episode 20

Screen caps below start after Siu Ching asked why CLH avoided her as of late (I cut out the part where SC and CLH discussed about his cordial feelings to Wah Jan Jan).

The screen caps below start after Chor tai-gor had a heart to heart conversation with the Emperor who practically offered his daughter the Princess to Lingering Fragrance.

He nodded...

...and she was of course disappointed...

She acknowledged his compliment despite her disappointment

So sweet that he actually worried about this...

She blushed...

Look at the way he admired her...
...and how glad he was of her promise and commitment...

While hugging her, his fingers kept caressing her...

... not just caressing, but squeezing her arms too... so sweet...

...and she was so happy to hear his commitment...

Sigh... my Velcro Couple is just too cute...By the way, when Siu Ching said "a woman should share her husband's fate", Chor tai-gor looked so happy and full of love (panels 9-10 from the last panel)... His expression reminded me of how Li Sai Man looked at Sik Sik (the Foundation 1984) when the latter told him that she was confident of his love for her (Ep 11 the Foundation). I mean, it's not because Michael Miu played both Li Sai Man and Chor Lau Heung (duh!). It was just the context was similar... both men were glad that their respective lovers told them something that they had wanted to hear (CLH that SC truly wanted to leave her title for him; LSM that SS finally realised how deep his love for her was, although of course we know what eventually happened to dear Sik Sik...).

Love this blog as I am a huge fan of Barbara and Michael. I just rewatched CLG and would love to get your opinion as to when you think CLH knew he fell for SC and when you think SC knew she fell for CLH. Also, I think I watched an edited version because there were scenes missing that I remember as a kid when I watched it on VHS. For instance, the scene in the song when Yut Dim Hung was drinking in the snow wasn't in the movie that I watched and I'm almost sure I saw that scene in the original. I don't know if you are aware of an edited/unedited version but if so, do you have a section here describing the scenes that were edited out? Thank you!

Hi Anon,

Thank you very much for visiting this blog and leaving a comment! I think CLH first realised he truly found SSC special when she left him in ep 11 at Dr Cheong's clinic. He was also saddened by her leaving in ep 5 or 6 (after she met Inspector Yin Man Lei in town), but he really felt the loss in ep 11. Of course with CLH, when we saw him again in Ep 12 or 13, he was all laughter and peachy, but i feel he was really impacted by SC's leaving in ep 11. When CLH met SC again in ep 15 (she was already with her dad), CLH already knew he wanted to be with her.

As for SC, she fell for him early on in Ep 3 when he helped her escaping Sit Siu Yan's naughty trap. She still pretended she didn't care, but I think she totally dropped it in ep 10 when he gave her portion of his water.

I have many more Michael and Barbara articles here:

If you can come and visit me there? I'm streamlining this blog and might delete many MB posts here just to keep all MB articles in my River and Lake blog. I've had almost, if not over, 120 articles by now in my new blog...

Thanks again!

Also, the scene where Fell Cut drank by the snowy river... I didn't recall that from my childhood viewing, hence I didn't think it was included until you told me about this. Many scenes in the opening theme were also not in the real episodes, like Kam Ling Chi combing Yuen Tsui Wan's hair, and CLH coaxing SC with Jan Jan next to him.

But the edited version at Dramanice doesn't have a lot of edits, so I think we can still enjoy that version. I also have the more complete version, but only a few minutes of difference. I don't know how to send it to you, but if you drop me your email here, I can PM you about it.

Hi! Thanks for your responses! I haven't tried watching off Dramanice. I actually bought a DVD set off a seller in China. I think it is probably very similar to the Dramanice one. Have you had any luck finding United We Stand? I can't find a cantonese version of that anywhere!

Oh no, UWS Cantonese is difficult to find?? I was counting on it being easy to find, to be able to watch it... I hate watching the Mandarin dubbed cos i can't hear Barbara's and Michael's real voices then...

What about YesAsia?

Found YesAsia selling UWS. It should work, cos it has Cantonese audio...

Wow, thanks so much! i checked yesasia awhile back and didn't see it. I must have missed it. Have you watched this series and if so, do you think it's worth buying? I love LOCH, Foundation and CLH. Those I remember well from childhood. I don't remember much about UWS so I'm not sure if that's telling me it wasn't as good. Also, I just went onto dramanice to try and watch some of the episodes to compare to the DVD I have and I can't download any of their episodes. Do you have any trouble?

Try Yueyuyy too:

I want to buy UWS, but i will see first if the Yueyuyy site above works. They usually just upload Cantonese versions for Yueyuyy.com. Have no time watching it yet, but next month I should have more time.

I have no trouble downloading Dramanice last year, not sure now. Try streaming it, it works well with streaming.
